Hurricanes Edge Eagles on the Road

Miami scored early and held off the Eagles for a 1-0 win.
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Miami Hurricanes scored in the seventh minute and then held off the Boston College women's soccer team the rest of the way for a 1-0 win over the Eagles on Thursday night at Cobb Stadium.
After the early Miami strike, BC poured it on to find an equalizer. BC out shot Miami eight to three in the first half and five to three in the second. The Eagles had three close looks in the final three minutes from Sophia Lowenberg, Laura Gouvin and Claire Mensi but Miami was able to hold on for the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 7' | After a throw in from midfield, Emma Pidding carried the ball up the right flank and cut in before centering a ball to Maria Jakobsdottir. Jakobsdottir took a few touches and then drifted to the right before firing a shot to the far-left post.
- Boston College is now 12-5-3 in the all-time series with Miami … the Eagles are 5-4-2 on the road against the Hurricanes.
- The Eagles had the 13-6 lead in shots and a 6-3 edge in shots on goal.
- The teams were even in corner kicks at four each.
- Laura Gouvin, Claire Mensi, Samantha Agresti and Sophia Lowenberg each tallied two shots for BC.
- Goalkeeper Wiebke Willebrandt finished with two saves for the Eagles … Melissa Degenais had six saves for the Hurricanes.
- Boston College (5-7-4, 1-6-1 ACC)
- Miami (5-6-3, 2-5-1 ACC)
- The Eagles will now travel to Clemson to face the Tigers on Sunday, Oct. 23 at Historic Riggs Field.
