Eagles Take Fifth in Women's Giant Slalom at Colby Carnival

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine – The Boston College skiing team opened the EISA season over the weekend at the Colby Carnival with the women earning fifth overall in Friday's giant slalom. The men took ninth in the GS at Sugarloaf Mountain.Â
Freshmen Chiara Maria Ferrari and Lauren Hunter had stellar EISA debuts for the Eagles, placing 10th and 18th respectively on Friday. Morgan Ellis rounded out the scoring positions with 26th place while junior captain Sophia Staudenmayer finished 34th.
On the men's side, Matthew Smallhouse put together a pair of consistent GS runs and placed 17th, followed by Ben Charleston (26th) and Will Kornya (36th).
Charleston led the way in the slalom, which was postponed to Sunday due to dangerous wind chills, moving up nearly 20 spots in the second run to finish 25th. Spencer Wright and Smallhouse also scored for BC in 41st and 42nd.
Gigi Kranjc scored for the women in the slalom with a 36th place showing.Â
Boston College travels to Smuggler's Notch next weekend for the St. Michael's Carnival in Vermont.
