September 23, 2021 | Men's Cross Country
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — The Boston College men's cross country team is set to race at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown tomorrow at Franklin Park in Boston. The meet - which attracts some of the best programs in the nation - is hosted by the BC women's cross country program.
The races are currently scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. for the women's five-kilometer race, followed by the men's eight-kilometer race at 3:45 p.m. However, the race times may shift due to inclement weather - most notably thunder and lightning storms - in the Boston area.
The women's race features No. 13 North Carolina and No. 22 Connecticut, along with several teams receiving votes in the latest USTFCCCA national poll - including Boston College and Syracuse. On the men's side, Arkansas leads the way with a No. 6 ranking, with several teams - UMass Lowell, Duke, Harvard, and Syracuse - also receiving votes on the national poll.
Franklin Park features one of the top cross country courses in the nation, hosting countless high school and collegiate meets throughout the year. It is home to the Massachusetts All-States Meet as well as the frequent host of the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship The park includes courses for 5,000 meters, 6,000 meters, 8,000 meters and 10,000 meters.
Franklin Park also won the honor of hosting the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in 1992, as a special 12.5 kilometer course was used for competition. Each course includes variants of three major loops, the stadium loop, the Bear Cage hill loop and the wilderness loop.
