September 21, 2021 | Men's Soccer
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – In the schools' first meeting since the 2019 NCAA Tournament, Yale edged Boston College 2-0 in a tight, defensive non-conference match on Tuesday night under the lights at Reese Stadium.
The Eagles dropped back to .500 overall at 3-3-1 (0-1-1 ACC), while the Ivy League's preseason favorite Yale improved to 3-2-0.
In the 36th minute, Sigfus Arnason sent a ball across the face of the BC net and Paolo Carroll deflected the pass into the right corner from the edge of the six to open the scoring.
Yale sealed the victory in the 83rd minute when Kahveh Zahiroleslam finished off a pass from Carroll into an open net following a Boston College giveaway.
Entering the night ranked top-10 nationally in shots per game, the Eagles were held to eight shots by the Bulldogs' defensive unit, most of which came in the closing minutes.
Boston College had a quality chance on a late free kick from Kristofer Konradsson, but Elain Haddock made a diving save to his left. Stefan Sigurdarson then hit the right post following back-to-back headers in the Yale 18-yard box.
BC travels to face 25th-ranked Louisville in ACC play on Friday night.
