
ACC Play Opens for BC Volleyball at Home Wednesday

Eagles and Syracuse set for an 8 p.m. first serve in Power Gym on ACC Network.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Boston College volleyball returns home for the first time since week one to take on Syracuse for its ACC opener on Wednesday, Sept. 22. The match begins at 8 p.m. inside Power Gym and will be broadcast nationally on ACC Network.

About the Eagles...
BC is 10-4 overall after an 8-0 start to the season; one win shy of the program's best start to a season of 9-0 from head coach Jason Kennedy's first season in 2018. With the Eagles' 3-1 win over Fordham (9/11), Kennedy became the fastest BC coach to 50 career wins. On the floor, graduate outside hitter and captain Clare Naughton leads the BC attack with 3.59 kills per set on a .252 hitting percentage. She has recorded 14 or more kills in eight matches this season. Graduate middle blocker Amaka Chukwujekwu is hitting a team-high .383 with 2.15 kills and 1.02 blocks per set. In Boston College offense, sophomore setters Sophia Lambros and Grace Penn average 5.30 and 4.94 assists per set, respectively.

Clare Naughton put down 16 kills in just three sets at Eastern Michigan (9/18) to push her career total to 953. She is 36 kills behind former teammate Cat Balido (2016-19) for 10th all-time at BC. Naughton is also aiming to become just the 10th player in program history to reach the 1,000-kill mark. The last to do so was Katty Workman (2012-15), the program's all-time leader at 1,689.

Maki Blocks...
Amaka Chukwujekwu started the season fourth all-time in total blocks at BC and has since moved into second with 414. She trails Kristen Roberts (1992-95) at 451 for the program record. Chukwujekwu entered the season tied for the BC record in block assists at 308 with Krystie Higgins (2009-12) and is now up to 350. Her 64 solo blocks are tied with Higgins for seventh all-time.

What a Weekend...
Izzy Clavenna earned all-tournament honors at St. John's with a 3.15 kills per set average and .419 hitting percentage. She posted a career-high 16 kills against the Red Storm (9/10) and played error-free with 12 kills against Army (9/10). Clavenna entered the season with 72 career kills in 54 sets and is up to 94 kills in 44 sets on the season with a .329 attack rate.

Inside the Series...
Boston College trails the all-time series against Syracuse, 7-24. The No. 14 Orange twice defeated the Eagles at home in the fall of 2020 to extend its win streak to seven in the series. BC last defeated Syracuse 3-1 at home on Nov. 2, 2016.
