Govaert's Overtime Tally Pushes Eagles to 3-2 Win over Maine

Boston College improves to 2-0 on the season
NEWTON, Mass. — Fusine Govaert's overtime goal in the 63rd minute propelled No. 7 Boston College to a 3-2 win over Maine on Saturday afternoon.
Govaert converted off a penalty corner, taking the Sarah Johnson injection pass and firing past Black Bears goalie Mia Borley.
Maine struck first on the day, as Hana Davis scored her first of the season in the first quarter. The Black Bears held a 5-2 edge in shots through the first 15 minutes of play and led 1-0 at the break.
In the second half, BC began to apply pressure on both ends of the field. Jaime Natale's first goal of the season in the 44th minute tied it at 1-1 late in the third quarter. But Davis would strike again for Maine, tallying her second goal of the day off a penalty corner in the 53rd minute.
Margo Carlin knotted it at 2-2, crushing a shot for her first score of the season late in the fourth quarter (59th minute). Maine had one last chance in regulation, setting up for the penalty corner with 0.2 left, but the Eagles defensive front thwarted the scoring opportunity.
In overtime, BC outshot Maine, 3-0, before converting off the penalty corner to win it.
Emily Gillespie stopped four shots on the day for the Eagles. Her counterpart - Borley - made eight saves.
For the game, BC outshot Maine, 25-9 - including an 11-6 edge in shots-on-goal. The Eagles held a 9-3 advantage in penalty corners.
Boston College returns to action next week in the B1G/ACC Cup in Durham, N.C. The Eagles take on No. 9 Maryland on Friday, Sept. 3 before taking on No. 4 Northwestern on Sunday, Sept. 5.
