Boston College ranks seventh nationally on the preseason NFHCA poll
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — The Boston College field hockey team will open its 2021 regular season at home this weekend, hosting Quinnipiac on Friday and Maine on Saturday. Both matches are set to begin at 1 p.m. at the Field Hockey Complex in Newton.
The Eagles open the 2021 campaign ranked seventh on the preseason Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll - the highest preseason ranking in the Kelly Doton era. BC was picked to finish second in the ACC in a vote by the league's coaches.
Three Boston College student-athletes - Fusine Govaert, Margo Carlin, and Jonna Kennedy - were selected to the All-ACC preseason field hockey team. The standout trio were honored by the ACC a season ago as part of the all-conference team, while also earning NFHCA All-American status.
A season ago, Quinnipiac posted a 2-7 overall record during the spring 2021 campaign. The Bobcats return 20 players and welcome nine newcomers this season.
Maine returns a veteran roster from a squad that finished with a 7-4 record - including a 7-1 mark in America East play - during 2020-21. The Black Bears advanced to the semifinals of the league championship, falling, 2-1, to Stanford.
