Pair of Birdball graduates lead Eagles on conference Academic Team.
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Boston College graduate students Dante Baldelli (Cumberland, R.I.) and Brian Dempsey (Potomac, Md.) were selected to the ACC Baseball All-Academic Team as announced by the conference office on Thursday morning. Baldelli, who earned his degree in healthcare administration in 2020, is a two-time Academic Team honoree, while Dempsey, a 2020 graduate with a degree in management, claimed his first career honor.
The BC duo is just the third to earn Academic Team recognition from the ACC in the same season since the Eagles joined the conference and the first since Hunter Gordon and Matt Pare in 2013. Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletics achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
Both Baldelli and Dempsey returned to BC for a fifth year after their 2020 senior season was cut short due to Covid-19. Baldelli had a breakout season in 2021 with a career-best .308 batting average to go with 27 RBI and 27 runs. He totaled 143 hits, 104 runs, 83 RBI and 41 stolen bases in his career with 170 starts in the outfield, spending three years in center field before playing right in 2021.
Dempsey capped off his career as the program's all-time leader in games played at 220 and third in career hits with 234. He hit .287 in 2021 to finish with a .295 batting average, while totaling 107 runs and RBI. Dempsey earned All-New England honors at shortstop.
