
Five Named IWLCA All-Americans

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – The national champion Boston College lacrosse team had five players named 2021 IWLCA All-Americans, as announced Tuesday. Tewaaraton Award winner Charlotte North was named to the first team, while Hollie Schleicher, Belle Smith and Cara Urbank were named to the second team and Jenn Medjid to the third team.
North was recently named the Tewaaraton Award winner, given to the best player in college lacrosse. She was named a first team All-American by both USA Lacrosse Magazine and Inside Lacrosse. She scored an NCAA-record 102 goals this season and had 114 points. In the NCAA Tournament, she set the record for goals in a single tournament with 31 goals and was named the tournament's most outstanding player. Her 114 points were second in the country and was third in the nation with 174 draws. North was the only player in both the top 10 in both goals and draws per game.
Schleicher, an All-ACC first team selection, moved from the midfield to defense this season. She has 92 draw controls, 33 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers so far this season. Her 92 draws are the seventh-most in a single season at BC. She was also selected as a USA Lacrosse Second Team All-American and Inside Lacrosse Third Team All-American. She was also named to the NCAA All-Tournament team.
Smith was the only freshman named to any all-region first team and the only freshman on either the All-ACC first or second team. She has 47 goals and 18 assists for 65 points this year, setting the BC freshman record for goals and points in a season. Smith was also named the Inside Lacrosse Midseason Rookie of the Year, USA Lacrosse and Inside Lacrosse Third Team All-American and to the IWLCA All-Northeast Region first team. Smith was one of two true freshmen named to an IWLCA All-America team.
Urbank, an All-ACC second team selection, has been one of BC's most versatile attackers, totaling a career-high 82 points on 39 goals and 43 assists this year. She has also been a part of the draw team, grabbing 71 draws this season. This year, she became the 11th Eagle to reach the 200-point club. She was also selected as a USA Lacrosse and Inside Lacrosse Honorable Mention All-American and to the IWLCA All-Northeast Region first team.
Medjid has been one of BC's top scoring threats this year, scoring 61 goals with 18 assists this season. She was an All-ACC second team selection earlier this season. Against Louisville on March 28, Medjid tied the BC record for goals in a game, scoring nine in BC's 18-3 win on just 11 shots. She was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team after scoring 19 goals and 24 points in five games. She was also selected as a USA Lacrosse and Inside Lacrosse Honorable Mention All-American and to the IWLCA All-Northeast Region first team.
