
BC Completes Saturday Sweep of Pitt

Anderson picks up two wins; K. Giery with five hits to lead the Eagles
BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Boston College softball team captured a sweep on Saturday over Pittsburgh at Harrington Athletics Village. The Eagles won the first game 3-2 and doubled up the Panthers 8-4 to secure the doubleheader sweep.

BC is now 10-27 on the season and 6-19 in the ACC while Pitt dropped to 16-27 and 11-22 in the ACC.

In game one, junior pitcher Susannah Anderson was masterful, going the distance for the complete game victory. She allowed just three hits and two runs and struck out three Panthers for the victory. Anderson got out of a bases loaded jam with no outs in the seventh for her 14th complete game of the season.

BC scored one in the second before Pitt scored two in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead.

The Eagles took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the fifth. Kristin Giery got things started with a RBI double to tie things up at 2-2. Gianna Boccagno followed later in the frame with her second hit of the day, a RBI infield single, to score Elisabeth Laviolette for the game-winning run.

Ellie Mataya, Laviolette and Boccagno all finished with two hits each in game one.

In the second game of the doubleheader, BC scored one in the first and two in the third before a big, four-run fourth.

Pitt would not go away easy as the Panthers responded with three runs of their own in the top of the fourth to regain the lead, 4-3, before BC's four-run fourth proved to be the difference.

Gianna Randazza started the scoring in the fourth with a RBI double to plate Payton Cox to even the game again at 4-4. Laviolette followed later in the inning with a two-run single and Kristin Giery added a RBI single of her own to extend the BC lead to 7-4.

Giery had a monster day at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with for runs batted in, including an opposite field, two-run home run in the third inning.

Nicole Giery closed out the scoring with a RBI double in the sixth to give the Eagles an 8-4 advantage.

Anderson was sensational out of the bullpen for her second win of the day. She logged 4.0 innings and held Pitt to one run on three hits for the victory.

BC exploded offensively with 13 hits in game two, led by Kristin Giery's perfect day. Mataya was 2-for-4 with a run scored, Laviolette also added two hits, scored two runs and drove in two while Nicole Giery went 2-for-4 with a run scored and run batted in.

The Eagles return to action next Wednesday at Harrington Athletics Village versus Dartmouth. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. with live broadcast coverage on ACC Network Extra.
