Eagles Drop Series at No. 18 Seminoles

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Boston College baseball team lost to No. 18 Florida State, 5-1, at Dick Howser Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles dropped to 14-18 overall and 4-16 in the ACC, while the Seminoles improved to 18-13 and 13-10.

Junior right-hander Emmet Sheehan (Darien, Conn.) was perfect the first time through the FSU order with five strikeouts. A pair of walks started the fourth and the Seminoles' first hit of the day, for the second day in a row, was a home run from catcher Matheu Nelson.

Sheehan (3-3) made is through the sixth inning for the eighth time in nine starts and sixth in a row. He struck out nine and walked just the two batters, while scattering four hits, yielding four runs.

BC grabbed the first lead of the day after loading the bases with nobody out in the top of the first. A wild pitch plated junior center fielder Sal Frelick (Lexington, Mass.), who singled and stole second. Lefty Bryce Hubbart then responded by striking out the next three Eagles.

Hubbart (4-2) bounced back after the initial bases-loaded jam to go 5.2 innings with just one run allowed on four hits and three walks as he struck out eight.
