Tigers win first-ever matchup between the two schools
CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson freshman pitcher Valerie Cagle tossed a complete game, three-hit shutout as the 17th-ranked Tigers defeated Boston College 6-0 in the series opener Friday evening at McWhorter Stadium.

Clemson upped its record to 29-4 and 19-4 in the ACC while BC fell to 8-22 and 4-14 in conference play. Cagle struck out nine and walked just one to move to 18-3 on the year.

In the first meeting between the two schools, Clemson scored one in the first, three in the third and added single runs in the fifth and sixth for the win. The Tigers hit two home runs in the victory.

Kristin Giery, Gianna Randazza and Gianna Boccagno each had a hit for the Eagles.

Marissa Guimbarda led Clemson going 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs and two RBI.

The two teams resume the four-game series with a doubleheader Saturday at noon. The game airs live on ACC Regional Sports Networks across the country, including NESN+ in Boston. Viewers that do not have the game televised in their local area can view the doubleheader on ACC Network Extra.
