BC Falls in Doubleheader at Virginia

Eagles lose 1-0 and 9-0 in Charlottesville
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia opened a four-game series with a pair of wins over Boston College Thursday at Palmer Park in Charlottesville. Boston College junior pitcher Susannah Anderson held Virginia to just one hit, but the host Cavaliers scored the game's only run as Virginia defeated BC 1-0 in game one. The Cavaliers completed the sweep with a 9-0 victory in game two of the doubleheader.

Virginia is 10-17 on the season and 6-13 in the ACC while BC moved to 5-17 overall and 1-10 in the conference.

In game one, Anderson was outstanding, allowing just a double on the day. She finished with five strikeouts and did not walk a batter.

Virginia was held hitless through three innings before the Cavaliers scored the game's first run in the fourth. Donna Friedman's sacrifice fly scored Katie Goldberg, who led the frame off with a double, to give UVA a 1-0 lead.

BC opened the fifth with a double off the bat of Gianna Boccagno, but pinch runner Elisabeth Laviolette was thrown out at the plate trying to score to end the threat for the Eagles.

In game two, Virginia sent 10 batters to the plate in the first inning and scored six runs to propel the Cavaliers to a 9-0 win in five innings.
