BC Overcomes Eight-Run Deficit to Defeat Merrimack
March 24, 2021 | Baseball
The Eagles trailed 8-0 through three before staging a 10-9, come-from-behind win.
Â
Trailing 8-0, BC scored in each inning between the third and seventh inning; capped by a five-run seventh to take its first lead of the game. Down 9-5 at the stretch, the Eagles trimmed the deficit to one with a two-run double by sophomore third baseman Luke Gold (Ballston, N.Y.) and a RBI-double by graduate first baseman Jack Cunningham (South Riding, Va.). BC scored the tying and go-ahead runs on wild pitches for its first lead of the day.
Â
Freshman lefty Charlie Coon (Duxbury, Mass.) steadied the ship for the Eagles' pitching staff with three-scoreless inning from the fourth through sixth. He scattered two hits and two walks with three strikeouts. The fifth BC pitcher of the day was freshman right-hander John West (Shrewsbury, Mass.). West (1-0) struck out two and allowed two hits over 1.2-shutout innings.
Â
Making his season debut, sophomore RHP Brian McMonagle (Moorestown, N.J.) entered with a one-run lead in the ninth to nail down his second career save. He allowed one hit and ended the game with a called strike three.
Â
Graduate catcher Sean Harrington (Walpole, Mass.), a transfer from Babson, made his first start behind the dish and went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and a hit-by-pitch. Sophomore second baseman Vince Cimini (Scranton, Pa.) added a 2-for-4 game with a double and a walk.
