
Rams Edge Eagles in Overtime

NEWTON, Mass. – The Boston College women's soccer team fell in overtime to Rhode Island, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon at the Newton Campus Soccer Field.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead into halftime on a goal from Michela Agresti but the visitors evened things up in the 71st minute. BC regained the lead in the 85th minute on a goal from Nye Day only to see the Rams equalize four minutes later. The Rams would then go on to net the winner early in the first overtime.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 23' | Jillian Jennings headed down a corner ball sent into the box and Jenna Bike, with her back to the goal, trapped it down and Michela Agresti charged forward and slid to strike the ball to the far post.
- 71' | Laila Rosenthal got the ball about 30 yards out and dribbled towards the top of the box. Rosenthal was able to fake a defender to get past and into an open position to place a shot inside the near post.
- 85' | Emily Knous sent a ball into the box and Sam Smith and a defender converged on it, with the ball then popping over to the right side of the box where Day one-timed a right-footed shot over the goalkeeper.
- 88' | A loose ball in the box found its way to the penalty spot where Haley Pignatelli got her left foot on it, sneaking it inside the left post and an outstretched Mackenzie Egan.
- 93' | Pignatelli sent a ball over the top and Brooke Cavino ran on to it, using her right foot to send a shot off the far post and in.
- Boston College had the 18-14 lead in shots and a 9-8 edge in shots on goal.
- The Eagles had the 10-5 lead in corner kicks.
- The Eagles now hold a mark of 5-1-1 in the all-time series with Rhode Island.
- Goalkeeper Mackenzie Egan earned her first collegiate start, making five saves … Teresa Morrissey finished with six saves for Rhode Island.
- Becca McCourt made her first career start and played 82 minutes.
- Nye Day recorded her first collegiate goal … she recorded her first collegiate point with an assist at Syracuse on Oct. 22, 2020.
- Michela Agresti recorded her first collegiate goal … she had two assists as a freshman.
- Jenna Bike led all players on the day with three shots on goal.
