Syracuse Holds Off Boston College in ACC Opener

WEYMOUTH, Mass. – The No. 1 and 2 singles matches went to three sets, but Syracuse held off Boston College for a 5-2 victory in the ACC opener for both schools on Saturday night at the Weymouth Club.
Natasha Irani and Laura Lopez each won their singles matches in straight sets. Irani lost only three games against Ines Fonte in the No. 3 slot, while Lopez defeated Sofya Treshcheva 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5.Â
With the Orange leading 3-2, Natalie Novotna came back to beat Kylie Wilcox in second singles after taking the third set 6-4. Yufei Long was locked up in a tight battle with Victoriya Kanapatska in the No. 1 slot before falling 6-2, 1-6, 6-3.Â
Long and Wilcox teamed up for a doubles victory to begin the match in a tiebreaker against the team of Treshcheva and Polina Kozyreva.
Boston College (1-1, 0-1 ACC) is off next weekend before returning to ACC competition on the road against Notre Dame on Feb. 19 and Louisville on Feb. 21.Â
