Boston College Drops Road Contest Versus No. 2/3 Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Boston College women's basketball team suffered a 79-49 setback to No. 2/3 Louisville on Thursday evening inside the KFC Yum! Center.Â
The Eagles fall to 8-4 overall and 0-2 in the ACC while the Cardinals improve to 11-1 and 1-0 in league action.
Taylor Soule led the team in scoring with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field, pulled down five rebounds, and dished out two assists.
The trio of Cameron Swartz, Makayla Dickens, and Maria Gakdeng rounded out the leading scorers with eight points. Gakdeng led the Eagles by tying a career-high with nine rebounds and led the team with two blocked shots.
It was a low-scoring affair in which the Eagles held UofL to only 20 percent shooting in the opening quarter. Boston College trailed by four points before Soule scored five straight to give the Eagles a 9-8 edge. UofL ended the period by scoring four of the final six to take a 12-11 lead.
Swartz's jumper gave the Eagles a 13-12 lead and a strong start to the second quarter. UofL responded by hitting seven of its next 10 baskets, leading to an 18-7 run and a 30-20 advantage. The Cardinals went into halftime up 35-24 after shooting 62.5 percent in the second and outscoring BC, 23-13, in the period.
The hot shooting for UofL didn't stop, as it shot 51.5 percent in the second half to pull away for the win.
Five Cardinals scored in double figures, with Emily Engstler leading the Cardinals with 14 points and seven rebounds.
Boston College returns to action next Thursday at home against Syracuse. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. inside Conte Forum with coverage on ACC Network Extra.
