Seventh All-America team this postseason for the BC offensive standout
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College offensive lineman Zion Johnson was named to the 2021 AFCA FBS Coaches' All-America second team announced today by the American Football Coaches Association.
Â
The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all five of its divisions. What makes these teams so special is that they are the only ones chosen exclusively by the men who know the players the best — the coaches themselves.
Â
Johnson has landed a spot on seven All-America teams this postseason. He is the first BC player to earn AFCA All-America accolades since Chris Lindstrom and Hamp Cheevers were named to the second team in 2018.
Â
He was also named to the AP, Walter Camp, ESPN, Reese's Senior Bowl, CBS Sports/247Sports and Pro Football Focus All-America teams as well.
Â
The Maryland native earned All-ACC accolades for the third time in his career and the first time he secured a spot on the All-ACC first team. The Maryland native allowed zero pressures in 2021 according to ESPN's advanced stats and just one sack in 2,288 career snaps at BC.
Â
He graded out as the seventh-best guard nationally (83.4) according to Pro Football Focus (min. 700 snaps). Johnson is listed as the No. 1 guard in the 2022 NFL Draft according to ESPN's Todd McShay and rated the No. 32 overall prospect for the 2022 NFL Draft by McShay.
Â
ESPN listed Johnson with just four blown blocks in 756 snaps this season and the No. 2 guard available for the 2022 draft by ESPN's Mel Kiper.
