Laura Lopez, Marice Aguiar Sweep Doubles Matches Once Again
CAMBRIDGE, MA — In the final weekend of competition for the fall season, the Eagles took on Wisconsin, Harvard, and Minnesota in individually-scored singles and doubles matches over the three-day invitational.
The doubles pair of Laura Lopez and Marice Aguiar went undefeated for the second consecutive weekend, defeating teams from Wisconsin (6-2), Minnesota (7-6 (4)), and finally Harvard without surrendering a single game, winning 6-0. Lopez added a singles win over Wisconsin (6-4, 6-3), with Aguiar securing a singles win of her own against Harvard (6-4, 6-4).
Lopez and Aguiar conclude the fall season with a commanding 8-1 record in doubles matches.
The Eagles added three more singles wins as Hailey Wilcox defeated Wisconsin's Mia Larrain 6-4, 6-3, Sophia Edwards beat Minnesota's Vasia Karvouni 7-6(4), 6-7(3), 1-0(8), and Natasha Irani took down Minnesota's Maria Rizzolo in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
"One definition of success is improvement. So I think overall the weekend was really good for us. We are getting better," said Eagles head coach Nigel Bentley. "In doubles we are recognizing plays and patterns more quickly. The team work and communication with doubles partners is much improved.  Laura and Maria are really clicking and are becoming a top team and are super fun to watch.  And in singles we are learning how to compete and play at a higher level….It was great for us to play against some strong out of region teams, Wisconsin and Minnesota….No doubt we have a lot of hard work to do.  All these matches are really difficult to win but we all are excited about the challenges ahead." Â
With fall competition all wrapped up, the Eagles will now prepare for the spring season starting in January.
