Volleyball Senior Day Friday on ACC Network

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The Boston College volleyball team closes out its 2021 home schedule with Virginia at Power Gym on Friday at 1 p.m. The Eagles' "Senior Day" will be aired nationally on ACC Network and streamed on the ESPN app.

About the Eagles...
BC is 15-16 overall, 5-12 in the ACC following road losses at Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. The Eagles began the month with a 3-1 win at Virginia as graduate outside hitter Clare Naughton tallied 24 kills. Naughton leads the BC attack with 3.32 kills per set to go with 2.38 digs per set. Graduate middle blocker Amaka Chukwujekwu is hitting a team-high .329 with 2.03 kills and 0.81 blocks per set. The Eagles play three different setters with sophomore Grace Penn having appeared in 107 sets; averaging 4.99 assists and 1.43 digs. Junior middle blocker Gabby McCaa leads the team in blocks at 0.92 per set and service aces at 22.

The 1,000-Kill Club...
With her first kill of the afternoon against Wake Forest (10/3), Clare Naughton became the 10th player in BC history to reach 1,000 career kills. She passed former teammate Cat Balido (982 kills - 2016-19) for 10th all-time in the Eagles' win over Virginia Tech. Naughton became the first player at BC to reach the 1,000-kill mark since Katty Workman (2012-15), the program's all-time leader at 1,689. She is currently tied for sixth with Amy Laurence (1994-97) at 1,142.

Maki Blocks...
Amaka Chukwujekwu started the season fourth all-time in total blocks at BC and claimed the top spot in the record book with her 452nd career block at Wake Forest (11/21). She passed Kristen Roberts (1992-95) for the program record. Chukwujekwu entered the season tied for the BC record in block assists at 308 with Krystie Higgins (2009-12) and is now up to 372.

Double-Double Machine...
Clare Naughton recorded four consecutive double-doubles beginning against Northeastern (9/7) and through the Jack Kaiser Classic at St. John's. She has totaled a career-high 11 double-doubles on the season and 19 for her career, which is tied for the seventh most in program history.

Hot and Cold...
Katrina Jensen averaged 3.50 kills per set through the first nine matches of the season as BC opened 8-1. As a freshman, she heated up in the spring season; averaging 3.40 kills per set over the last six matches of the season. Jensen posted a high of 23 kills on a .500 attack rate at Wake Forest (4/2/21). This season, she has posted 15 or more kills in five matches, snapping out of an eighth-match stretch averaging just 0.89 kills with 18 kills vs. Wake Forest (10/3).

What a Weekend...
Izzy Clavenna earned all-tournament honors at St. John's with a 3.15 kills per set average and .419 hitting percentage. She posted a career-high 16 kills against the Red Storm (9/10) and played error-free with 12 kills against Army (9/10). Clavenna entered the season with 72 career kills in 54 sets and is up to 127 kills in 62 sets on the season.

Dig & Pass...
Sophomore libero Anna Murphy is sixth in the ACC with 3.89 dig per set. She notched a career-high 27 at Bryant (9/4) and has surpassed 20 digs on seven occasions, including 26 in a five-set win over Virginia Tech. Murphy added 10 assists against the Hokies for her first career double-double.

Virginia leads the all-time series 18-7 with every match-up coming in the Eagles' ACC era. BC and UVA split two-match, season-series in both 2018 and 2019 and did not face each other in the 2020-21 season.
