The Eagles move to 3-0 in the Earl Grant era with win over the Stags
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — The Boston College Eagles (3-0) took down the Fairfield Stags (0-2), winning 72-64 on Sunday afternoon.
Earl Grant moves to 3-0 in his Eagles tenure, as Makai Ashton-Langford logged a season-high 17 points, with his younger brother DeMarr Langford Jr. adding 16 points and 7 rebounds to pace Boston College to the victory in the Conte Forum.
Supreme Cook lead the Stags in scoring with 16 points, adding 7 rebounds as well. Taj Benning and TJ Long logged 14 and 13 points, respectively, in a battle that lasted all forty minutes.
The Eagles took a 33-27 lead into halftime behind 10 from Ashton-Langford, who went three of four from three before the break. The second half was even closer, with the Eagles outscoring Fairfield 39-37 over the final twenty minutes. Freshman Jaeden Zackery gave the Eagles life out of the locker room, scoring 10 of his 13 points and going 5-6 from the floor.
With just over eight minutes to go in the contest, Makai Ashton-Langford grabbed a rebound and found Zackery in transition. He tossed a perfect lob to DeMarr Langford, who punctuated the possession with a thunderous alley-oop finish to put the Eagles up 55-44.
As a team, the Eagles shot 50 percent from the field which included a scorching 6-9 from three-point range.
