No. 6 Eagles Open 100th Season with 2-2 Tie Against No. 9 Quinnipiac

WORCESTER, Mass. – No. 6 Boston College opened its 100th season of men's hockey by skating to a 2-2 tie with No. 9 Quinnipiac on Friday afternoon in the first game of the Icebreaker Tournament at the DCU Center.

The Eagles won a shootout with the Bobcats in the fourth round to secure an extra point in the tournament standings.
Â
Graduate transfer Eric Dop stopped 31 of the 33 shots he faced in his BC debut, making 23 saves in the second and third periods combined.
Â
Colby Ambrosio and Patrick Giles registered the goals for the Eagles, while rookies Aidan Hreschuk and Mike Posma collected their first collegiate assists.

Ambrosio opened the scoring just 55 seconds into the first period, following a rebound at the left doorstep from a Marshall Warren shot. Giles extended the lead at 6:15 of the second when his 2-on-1 centering pass deflected off a Quinnipiac defensemen inside the right post.

Ty Smilanic pulled the Bobcats within one late in the second period and QU tied the game just 1:15 into the third through Skyler Brind'Amour.

In the shootout, Eamon Powell and Casey Carreau both went five-hole in the third and fourth rounds to hand BC an extra point in the Icebreaker standings.

Boston College will face the tournament host Holy Cross on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. on NESN to close the tournament.
