Eagles Erase Two-Set Deficit; Fall in the Fifth

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College volleyball team fought back from a two-set deficit before falling in five, 3-2, to Wake Forest on Sunday in Power Gym. The loss marked the first home defeat for the Eagles (12-6, 2-2 ACC).

Graduate outside hitter Clare Naughton (Atlanta, Ga.) tallied the 1,000th kill of her career on her first point of the day. She finished with 18 and 12 digs for her seventh double-double of the season and 15th of her career.

The Demon Deacons (10-5, 1-3) played their best late in each set; pulling away for 25-23 and 25-21 wins in the first two games. BC then got in the match with a 25-22 win in the third and later fought off match-point in the fourth; 27-25.

In the fifth, Wake led 8-6 at the media timeout and stretched that lead to 11-7 before a 4-0 BC run, including back-to-back kills by sophomore outside hitter Katrina Jensen (Temecula, Calif.), tied the set. The Eagles briefly staved off match-point on Jensen's 18th and final kill of the day, as she hit .519, but the Demon Deacons clinched the match with a 15-13 win.

Wake Forest's Kamryn Malloy led all players with 25 kills on a .440 hitting percentage. Ashley Slater added 18 kills and setter Andrea Fuentes dished out 52 assists.

BC played three setters with sophomore Sophia Lambros (Fullerton, Calif.) collecting a team-high 29 assists. Freshman Jenna Pollock (St. Catharines, Ont.) and graduate Amaka Chukwujekwu (Laurel, Md.) contributed to the Eagle attack with 13 and 11 kills, respectively.

Boston College is back in action next Friday, Oct. 8 at Louisville.
