Volleyball Opens Weekend at No. 3 Louisville

Eagles on the road to face Cardinals and Fighting Irish in ACC action.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Boston College volleyball is on the road this weekend at No. 3 Louisville and Notre Dame. Match one is Friday night at 7 p.m. with match two Sunday at 1 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on ACCNX.

About the Eagles...
BC is 12-6 overall, 2-2 in the ACC and ranked No. 72 in the NCAA first RPI report. The Eagles played two five-set matches at home last weekend with a win over Virginia Tech and a comeback attempt against Wake Forest. Graduate outside hitter Clare Naughton totaled 35 kills throughout the weekend and leads the BC attack with 3.63 kills per set to go with 2.32 digs per set. Graduate middle blocker Amaka Chukwujekwu is hitting a team-high .358 with 2.03 kills and 0.91 blocks per set. Coming off an 18-kill performance against the Demon Deacons, sophomore outside hitter Katrina Jensen is up to 2.61 kills per set. Junior right side Izzy Clavenna is third on the team with 2.05 per set on a .285 attack rate.Â

The 1,000-Kill Club...
With her first kills of the afternoon against Wake Forest (10/3), Clare Naughton became the 10th player in BC history to reach 1,000 career kills. She passed former teammate Cat Balido (982 kills - 2016-19) for 10th all-time in the Eagles' win over Virginia Tech. Naughton became the first player at BC to reach the 1,000-kill mark since Katty Workman (2012-15), the program's all-time leader at 1,689. She currently ranks ninth with 1,017; 33 behind Taylor Williams (1,050 - 2006-09) for eighth.

Maki Blocks...
Amaka Chukwujekwu started the season fourth all-time in total blocks at BC and has since moved into second with 424. She trails Kristen Roberts (1992-95) at 451 for the program record. Chukwujekwu entered the season tied for the BC record in block assists at 308 with Krystie Higgins (2009-12) and is now up to 356.

Double-Double Machine...
Clare Naughton recorded four consecutive double-doubles beginning against Northeastern (9/7) and through the Jack Kaiser Classic at St. John's. She has totaled seven double-doubles on the season, matching her total from the 2020-21 season, and 15 for her career.

Hot and Cold...
Katrina Jensen averaged 3.50 kills per set through the first nine matches of the season as BC opened 8-1. As a freshman, she heated up in the spring season; averaging 3.40 kills per set over the last six matches of the season. Jensen posted a high of 23 kills on a .500 attack rate at Wake Forest (4/2/21). This season, she has posted 15 or more kills in five matches, snapping out of an eighth-match stretch averaging just 0.89 kills with 18 kills vs. Wake Forest (10/3).

What a Weekend...
Izzy Clavenna earned all-tournament honors at St. John's with a 3.15 kills per set average and .419 hitting percentage. She posted a career-high 16 kills against the Red Storm (9/10) and played error-free with 12 kills against Army (9/10). Clavenna entered the season with 72 career kills in 54 sets and is up to 127 kills in 62 sets on the season with a .285 attack rate.

Dig & Pass...
Sophomore libero Anna Murphy is fourth in the ACC with 3.94 dig per set. She notched a career-high 27 at Bryant (9/4) and has surpassed 20 digs on five occasions, including 26 in a five-set win over Virginia Tech. Murphy added 10 assists against the Hokies for her first career double-double. Her totals against Bryant and VT are two of the five highest single-match totals in the ACC this season.

Up Next...
The Eagles return home for a busy weekend on the Heights beginning on Friday, Oct. 15 against North Carolina at 8 p.m. BC then moves off campus for Sunday, Oct. 17 to take on NC State at Holy Cross due to commencement 2020 inside Conte Forum that day.
