No. 6 Eagles Host No. 18 Northeastern in Hockey East and Home Opener

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – No. 6/7 Boston College hosts No. 18 Northeastern on Friday night in its Hockey East opener and home opener at Kelley Rink on NESNplus with faceoff at 7 p.m. at Kelley Rink. It will be the first time the Eagles have hosted fans since March 6, 2020 (588 days), which was a 2-1 Senior Night victory over UNH in the penultimate game of the 2019-20 regular season.
SEASON OPENER
• Boston College opened its 100th season of men's hockey by skating to a 2-2 tie with No. 9 Quinnipiac last Friday in the first game of the Ice Breaker at the DCU Center
• The Eagles won a shootout with the Bobcats in the fourth round to secure an extra point
• Graduate transfer Eric Dop stopped 31 of the 33 shots he faced in his BC debut
• Colby Ambrosio and Patrick Giles registered the goals for the Eagles, while rookies Aidan Hreschuk and Mike Posma collected their first collegiate assists
• In the shootout, Eamon Powell and Casey Carreau went five-hole in the third and fourth rounds
ICE BREAKER CHAMPS
• The following night, Boston College scored four goals in the opening 12 minutes and never looked back as the Eagles won the 2021 Ice Breaker with a 5-1 victory over Holy Cross
• BC out-shot Holy Cross 41-19 on the night and held the Crusaders without a single power play, the first time accomplishing the feat since Nov. 5, 2010 against UNH
• Senior captain Marc McLaughlin scored a pair of goals in the first period while graduate transfer Brandon Kruse and rookie Matt Argentina registered their first goals in a BC sweater
• Junior Marshall Warren posted a goal and an assist while freshman Connor Joyce collected the first two assists of his career; Jack McBain also had a pair of assists in the win
• Sophomore Henry Wilder made the start in net and stopped 18 of the 19 Crusader shots he faced
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
• Northeastern enters the weekend at 2-1-0 through three games
• The Huskies also competed in the Ice Breaker last weekend, shutting out Holy Cross 3-0 before being shut out by No. 9 Quinnipiac 3-0
• NU blanked Bentley 4-0 at Matthews Arena in its season opener on Oct. 2
• Junior Aidan McDonough leads the team with three goals in the first three games of the season
• Sophomore Devon Levi owns a 1.01 GAA and a .963 SV% through three starts between the pipes
• After 10 seasons as an assistant and associate head coach at NU, Jerry Keefe is now in his first year as head coach
SERIES HISTORY
• Friday will mark the 243rd all-time meeting in series history with Boston College leading 171-55-16
• Since falling to NU in the 2019 Hockey East Title Game, the Eagles have won four straight in the series and have out-scored the Huskies 23-7 in those four games
• BC won 6-2 at Matthews in February of last season, then beat the Huskies 4-2 on Senior Night at Conte Forum
MARSH MAKES HIS MARK
• Marshall Warren was named the Hockey East Player of the Week on Monday
• The junior defenseman had a goal and two assists for three points in the Ice Breaker and was named to the All-Tournament Team with Marc McLaughlin
• Warren finished the weekend with 10 shots on goal and a +3 rating
THE POLLS
• BC enters the weekend ranked sixth in Monday's USCHO.com poll and seventh in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, up one spot from the previous Monday
• Boston College was ranked no lower than third throughout the 2020-21 season in both national polls before finishing sixth following the NCAA Regional Final
• The Eagles spent eight weeks as the No. 1 team in the country in at least one poll
