October 01, 2021 | Men's Soccer
NEWTON, Mass. – Boston College and 11th-ranked Virginia Tech played to a scoreless draw after 110 minutes on Friday night in front of nearly 2,000 fans at the Newton Soccer Complex.
The Eagles remained unbeaten this season in five home matches (3-0-2) and pushed their record to 3-4-2 (0-2-2 ACC). The Hokies extended their unbeaten streak to five games (4-0-1), moving to 6-1-3 (2-1-1 ACC).
Brennan Klein made his second straight start in net and made three saves for his first collegiate shutout. Klein came up with an impressive diving save to his right in the 18th minute to deny Jacob Labovitz off a Virginia Tech corner kick.
Labovitz had two more opportunities in quick succession during the second half, but he missed the net to the right from point-blank range in the 72nd minute and failed to lob Klein in the 74th.
30 seconds into the second overtime, Stefan Sigurdarson drilled a left-footed shot toward the net but it deflected inches wide left off a Virginia Tech defender.
Nick Blacklock had the Hokies' best chances in overtime, but curled a pair of right-footed efforts just over the crossbar.
Ben Martino made saves on rookies Drew Serafino and Sam White for a shutout in the VT net.
