
Eagles Compete at NCAA Northeast Regional

Rylie Rueda took fifth in women's epee, Spencer Kuldell took 10th in men's sabre.
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Boston College fencing team was one of 18 schools to compete at the NCAA Northeast Regional on Sunday at Cornell University. On the men's side, the Eagles had three top-15 finishes, including Spencer Kuldell in 10th in the sabre while the women's side saw Rylie Rueda take fifth in epee and Cosima Martus finish 13th.Â

MEN'S RESULTS
Men's Epee
-Will Smith, Aiden Banyon-Mrak and Thomas Junseo Park all moved on to the second round, joining Michael Corban, with Smith and Banyon-Mrak then advancing to the third round. Banyon-Mrak finished in 16th-place while Smith ended up in 21st, Corban in 27th and Park in 32nd.

Men's Foil
-Bin Huang and Philip Acinapuro both advanced out of the third round of pool before both fell in the fourth round. Huang ended up with a 14th-place finish while Acinapuro came in 20th and Brian Wang finished tied for 30th.

Men's Sabre
-Spencer Kuldell and Bolang Meng advanced to the third round with Kuldell then going on to earn a spot as one of the 12 fencers in the final round. Kuldell ended up with a 10th-place finish while Meng finished in 14th and Ben Slavin was 26th.

WOMEN'S RESULTS
Women's Epee
-Laura Boden, Cosima Martus and Christina Ko advanced out of the first pool to then join Rylie Rueda in the third round. Rueda was then one of the 12 fencers to advance to the final round, going on to earn fifth-place overall. Martus earned a 13th-place finish while Ko was four spots later in 17th and Boden placed 33rd.

Women's Foil
-Samantha Davidson earned a spot in the second round to join Madison Lee and Kate Devereaux, with Devereaux then advancing to the third round en route to a 21st-place finish. Lee finished in 25th while Davidson finished in 33rd.

Women's Sabre
-Crystal Chen and Gillian Lawlor advanced to the third round of women's sabre before having their regional end, with Chen going on to earn 19th and Gillian Lawlor 21st. Katarina Hone earned another top-25 spot for the Eagles with her 24th-place finish.

ADVANCING
Qualification for the NCAA Championship is based on a formula comprising a 60 percent weight on regional performance and 40 percent regular-season meets. The top eight fencers in all events except women's sabre (nine qualifiers) will qualify for nationals, with a maximum of two fencers per team in each event. The next two regional finishers are put into the at-large pool. Two total at-large spots in the epee, foil and sabre for both men's and women's competitors will be awarded.
