Thornton Named to 2019-20 All-ACC Academic Men's Basketball Team

The graduate transfer is a candidate for a masters degree in leadership & administration
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Derryck Thornton has been named to the 2019-20 All-ACC Academic Team, it was announced today by the league office.
Thornton ranks among the ACC leaders in scoring (17th, 13.1 ppg), assists (12, 3.5 apg), and free throw percentage (10th, 79.2%). Since arriving at the Heights, Thornton has put forth some of the best offensive performances of his collegiate career. Â
His top four career scoring performances have come this season, including a career-best 23 points vs. Wake Forest in the season opener. The 6-3 guard has scored 20 or more points on four occasions, including 22 points in a home win over N.C. State and 22 points in a road win at USF. He has registered six of the highest scoring performances for BC in 2019-20. Â
The Los Angeles native arrived at Boston College this summer as a graduate transfer. Thornton earned his undergraduate degree in business from USC in 2019. He is a candidate for a masters degree in leadership & administration through Boston College's Woods College of Advancing Studies.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
