ACC play opens this weekend for Boston College as the Eagles wrap up their spring break trip at No. 23 Clemson. The series begins at Doug Kingsmore Stadium Friday at 4 p.m. Games two and three will be streamed on ACCNX.
ABOUT THE EAGLES
Boston College opened its spring break road trip with a 2-2 weekend in Greensboro; twice beating Fairfield and twice falling to host North Carolina A&T. The Eagles, whose midweek game at South Carolina was rained out on Wednesday, are 5-6 overall and hitting .326 as a team, which ranks second in the ACC. Three hitters are above .400; led by senior left fielder Joe Suozzi, whose career-best 14-game hit streak came to an end on Monday. He is hitting .439 and slugging .683 with 12 RBI and 11 runs. Senior first baseman Jack Cunningham is hitting .429 with a .571 slugging percentage and nine RBI. Sophomore third baseman Cody Morissette has overcome a 3-for-15 opening weekend and is hitting .405 and slugging .619 with 10 runs and nine RBI. In his last start, sophomore right-hander Mason Pelio tossed a season-high seven innings of two-run ball vs. North Carolina A&T (2/28). He is 1-2 on the year with a 4.50 earned run average and 14 strikeouts in 16 innings.SCOUTING THE TIGERS
No. 23 Clemson is 9-3, including a series win over South Carolina last weekend. Left fielder Kier Meredith leads the Tigers' lineup with a .455 average and nine runs scored. Two-way player Davis Sharpe, a right-handed starter, is hitting .345 with two home runs and owns a 1-1 record and 2.51 ERA in three starts. Second baseman Elijah Henderson is third on the team with a .302 average to go with seven runs scored. In the Friday night role, Lefty Sam Weatherly is 2-0 with a 0.53 ERA and .077 batting average against.ALL-TIME VS. CLEMSON
In a series that began when Boston College joined the ACC for the 2006 baseball season, Clemson leads the all-time series, 33-10. The Eagles are 4-17 on the road and lost each of their last seven games at DKS. BC snapped a 10-game losing streak to the Tigers last year with a Sunday win behind 6.2 innings from Pelio in a 3-2 decision. Game one of the 2019 ACC Championship ended with a 7-5 win for 12-seed Boston College in 11 innings. The Eagles led 5-2 in the middle of the eighth after six-strong from Pelio, who worked himself out of jams in the first two innings, limiting the Tigers to one early run. Morissette homered twice and finished 3-for-6.
