March 17, 2020 | Men's Hockey
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Matt Boldy, Spencer Knight and Alex Newhook were all named to the annual Pro Ambitions Hockey East All-Rookie Team on Tuesday. Knight and Newhook were the only two unanimous selections to the seven-member squad.
Boldy ranked fourth among all Hockey East rookies with 26 points and led all freshmen with 101 shots on goal. 23 of his 26 points came after New Year's, which ranked third nationally among first-year skaters. The forward was also a plus-15 during that span.
Knight closed his freshman year ranked fifth in the country in winning percentage (.727) with a 23-8-2 record in 33 starts. He was tied for third nationally with five shutouts and finished third in Hockey East in both goals against average (1.97) and save percentage (.931).Â
Newhook led all NCAA freshmen in goals (19), plus-minus (+28), game-winning goals (4) and shorthanded goals (3). His 42 points were tied for a team-high and led all first-year skaters in Hockey East. He was named the National Player and Rookie of the Month in February with 20 points in nine games.
Newhook was the runner-up for the Hockey East Scoring Champion Award, trailing only Providence's Jack Dugan (35) in scoring during league play with 33 points. Knight was tabbed a runner-up for the league's PNC Bank Three Stars Award.
Senior Jesper Mattila ('47 Best Defensive Defenseman) and sophomore Marc McLaughlin (Gladiator Custom Mouthguards Best Defensive Forward) were also recognized as the runner-up for a pair of defensive awards.
