
Notre Dame Defeats BC 80-58 in ACC Tournament

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Notre Dame defeated Boston College 80-58 Wednesday night in the second round of the 2020 New York Life ACC Tournament.

The loss ends BC's season at 13-19 overall while Notre Dame moves to 20-12.Â

Junior Steffon Mitchell led the Eagles with 20 points and 13 rebounds. It was his eighth double-double of the season, tops on the team.

Freshman Jay Heath added 15 points, four assists and two rebounds. The Washington, D.C. native drained three, three-pointers, to set a new BC freshman record with 65 triples.

Notre Dame led 36-21 at halftime as the Fighting Irish held the Eagles to just seven field goals (23% shooting) in the opening 20 minutes. Notre Dame led the entire first half and used a 10-0 run to stretch the lead to double-figures in the opening half.

BC would cut the lead to seven in the second half as the Eagles ripped off a 12-2 run, including seven straight points by Mitchell, but could not get any closer as the Fighting Irish pulled away.

- Steffon Mitchell led all players on the court in points (20) and rebounds (13) Wednesday night.
- Mitchell tied his career-high with 10 made free throws against the Irish. He also made 10 free throws against Providence in 2018.
- Jay Heath finished his freshman season with 65 made three-pointers on the season, breaking the BC freshman record for single-season triples previously held by Tyrese Rice (63) in 2005-06.Â
