
Eagles Drop Two at FGCU Kickoff Classic

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Boston College softball team dropped both games on Saturday, Feb. 8 in the FGCU Kickoff Classic against UConn and Delaware. The Eagles opened the day with a 3-2, eight-inning, loss to UConn and then a 2-0 loss to Delaware.

Game 1 vs. UConn
Starter Susannah Anderson pitched a complete-game, going 7 1/3 innings with one earned run and a career-high eight strikeouts. She pitched five scoreless innings before a bases-loaded HBP allowed a run to score for the Huskies.

BC answered in the top of the seventh, when Maddy Carpe scored on a passed ball with two outs left in the inning. Carpe reached base safely on a walk before Abigail Knight advanced her with a sacrifice bunt. Carpe then advanced to third on a passed ball before ultimately scoring

The Eagles' weren't done yet though, as Jenna Ergle hit a hard line drive down the right field line and scored Ellie Mataya to give BC a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the eighth, UConn had runners on second and third after a bunt single advanced the placed runner on second and a stolen base. The Huskies then hit a single up the middle for the game's final two runs.

Game 2 vs. Delaware
BC then turned around for a game right after, facing Delaware in the Eagles' fourth game of the FGCU Kickoff Classic.

Ellie Mataya had his best game of the young season, going 3-4 in the contest. Though Jenna Ergle was 0-1 on the day, she battled in the batter's box, registering three walks.

Delaware jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning before extending it to 2-0 in the second for the final score of the game.

Peyton Schnackenberg pitched the entire game for BC, giving up one earned run and walking one batter with one strikeout in six innings of work.

BC's best chance of the game came in the top of the fifth inning, where the Eagles' had the bases loaded with one out. Delaware weathered the storm, though, striking out two-straight batters to get out of the jam.
