
Eagles Have Up and Down Day at Bulldog Classic

ATHENS, Ga. - The Boston College softball team had some highs and lows on Saturday, Feb. 29 at the Bulldog Classic in Athens, Georgia, defeating Eastern Illinois, 10-0 in five innings, but falling to No. 14 Georgia, 4-0.
The Eagles showed their offense in the first game of the day, against Eastern Illinois. All of the scoring came in the second and third innings.
In the bottom of the second, BC was walked and hit by a pitch to score its first two runs of the game. Jules Trevino then hit a sacrifice fly to center to extend the lead to three. Emme Martinez then hit a RBI single to right to score another, before Kristin Giery doubled down the right field line to score two more.
The offense didn't end in the second, though, as BC added four more runs in the bottom of the third. Ellie Mataya started it all when she doubled to left center to bring home Gianna Sarlo and Britney Richardson. Jenna Ergle then also doubled to bring Mataya home. Giery then came through again, hitting a single to center to help Ergle score on a fielding error.
Susannah Anderson pitched all five innings for BC, allowing seven hits while striking out five.Â
The Eagles then fell to No. 14 Georgia, 4-0, in their second game of the day.
Mataya got BC's lone hit on the day, while CC Cook pitched five innings, giving up three runs on five hits. Peyton Schnackenberg made her first appearance of the weekend, pitching one inning.

BC is back tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 29, for a pair of games against Eastern Illinois and Georgia.
