February 28, 2020 | Baseball
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Boston College baseball team came up a run short in a 2-1 loss at North Carolina A&T at War Memorial Stadium on Friday night. The loss extended the Eagles' losing streak to five games as they dropped to 3-5, while the Aggies improved to 3-6.
Two free passes, a hit batter and a walk, set up the Aggies; game-tying run in the sixth. Center fielder Donte Wade drove in the tying run on a two-out double down the left field line. BC sophomore right-hander Mason Pelio (San Diego, Calif.) limited the damage to one run by picking up his fourth strikeout to strand two runners in scoring position.
An inning later, third baseman Justin Williams got the home half of the seventh underway with a leadoff-single; his first hit of the season. A&T elected to sacrifice him to second and after a wild pitch Williams scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice-fly from shortstop Dustin Baber.
Pelio (1-2) pitched a season-high seven innings. He gave up two runs on four hits, three walks and three hit batsmen with four strikeouts.
The Eagles got on the board in the third to take the first lead of the day. Sophomore right fielder Sal Frelick (Lexington, Mass.) walked into third with a stand-up triple hit into the right field corner and scored on a sacrifice-fly off the bat of senior shortstop Brian Dempsey (Potomac, Md.).
Right-hander Michael Johnson (1-2) scattered six Eagle hits across seven innings to get the win for the Aggies. He struck out eight, walked two and allowed just one run.
