
Eagles to Play in Gamecock Invitational

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College softball team continues its road non-conference schedule at the Gamecock Invitational from Feb. 21-23 in Columbia, South Carolina, where the Eagles will face off against No. 22 South Carolina, Liberty, Elon and Iowa State.

Boston College will be heading to Columbia, South Carolina for the Gamecock Invitational, where the Eagles will play South Carolina, Libery, Elon and Iowa State.Â
The Eagles are coming off a 1-3 weekend down in Atlanta for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. BC lost a pair of games to Iowa and split the two games against Nebraska. They did however, end on a high note, defeating Nebraska, 2-0, on Sunday behind a two-hit complete game shutout from Susannah Anderson. At the plate, Gianna Boccango hit BC's only home run of the weekend during that game, taking a pitch to dead center.

BC is returning eight players who saw the field in more than 30 games last season. Gianna Baccagni started 52 games last season and led the team with eight home runs and 24 RBI.Â
The Newcomers
There are nine newcomers on the team this year, which makes up 45 percent of the team. Eight of the newcomers are freshman, while there is one transfer, Peyton Schnackenberg, who comes to BC from Syracuse.Â
The freshmen are occupying numerous spots in the starting lineup, where three have started six or more games. Djhane Valido and Abi Knight have started all nine games for BC at shortstop and second base, respectively.Â
Anderson Says "No-No"
In BC's final game of the FGCU Kickoff Classic, sophomore Susannah Anderson pitched a gem for the Eagles. She threw her first-career complete-game no-hitter in BC's 1-0 win, totaling 10 strikeouts on no walks and two HBP.
She then capped her weekend at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge with a two-hit complete game against Nebraska. She threw only 87 pitches, striking out six batters and only walking one.
Anderson is competing with some of the best in the ACC in numerous statistical categories. She's second in the conference with four complete games, while leading the conference with two shutouts. She's pitched the second-most innings with 36.1, while only allowing six earned runs for an ERA of 1.16. Her 39 strikeouts in six appearances are the third-most in the conference.
Led by Pitching
BC's pitching has been stellar to start the season. In nine games, BC has only allowed 13 total earned runs and a league-low 39 hits. BC is also the only team in the ACC to not allow a home run so far this season.
Leading the Charge
Amy Kvilhaug has taken over as the new head coach of BC softball in 2020. She has made head coaching stops at Radford and St. John's, amassing 400 wins throughout her career. She competed collegiately at Providence, where she holds seven PC career records, including starts (92), games won (72), complete games (84), earned run average (1.20) and shutouts (27). Kvilhaug is also a hall of famer at Providence.Â
