Eagles Drop ACC Heartbreaker at Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse came back in No. 1 singles to clinch the deciding point in a 4-3 victory over Boston College on Saturday in ACC action at Drumlins Country Club.
The Eagles fell to 7-2 (0-2 ACC) while the Orange won its ACC opener and improved to 6-0 (1-0).Â
BC opened the match by winning the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead as Elene Tsokilauri and Laura Lopez posted a convincing 6-2 victory in second doubles. Yufei Long and Kylie Wilcox remained strong by winning 6-4 in the No. 1 doubles slot.Â
As the match shifted to singles, four of the six matchups went to a third set.
Wilcox outlasted Sofya Golubovskaya 6-4 in her third set from the No. 2 slot to tie the overall match 2-2. Lopez stayed perfect on the season at 9-0 in singles with a come-from-behind win against Sofya Treshcheva in a third set tiebreaker.
The win for Lopez knotted the score 3-3, making Long's back and forth match against No. 76 Guzal Yusupova the decider. Long held a lead in the third set, but Yusupova stormed back to take the set 7-5 and clinch the match for the Orange.
Boston College faces Cornell in Binghamton on Sunday (Feb. 16) at 12 p.m.
