Eagles Host Irish to Close Fall Season

Boston College volleyball plays a pair against ND on NESN (Friday) and ACCNX (Saturday).
All home 2020 BC athletics events are closed to the public due to Covid-19 protocols.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Boston College volleyball wraps up its fall season with a pair of matches against No. 5 Notre Dame at Power Gym this weekend. The Eagles and Irish take the court Friday, Oct. 23 on NESN and Saturday, Oct. 24 on ACCNX. Both matches are scheduled to start at 8 p.m.
About the Eagles...
BC has played all six matches against top-15 competition this season and finishes the fall slate against the highest ranked opponent of the year. Leading the Eagles' attack is senior outside hitter Clare Naughton at 2.70 kills per set to go with 1.75 digs per set on the other side of the ball. Sophomore middle blocker Gabby McCaa continues to produce at the net and is hitting a team-best .353 with 0.90 kills and 1.00 blocks per set. Freshman Anna Murphy leads the Eagles' back row with 3.11 digs per set. Boston College's 6-2 offense features a pair of freshman setters; Sophia Lambros and Grace Penn, who started both matches at Syracuse last weekend. Lambros averages a team-high 4.55 assists per set, while Penn adds 4.05.

The Eagles trail the all-time series against the Irish, 4-18. Notre Dame has won five in a row with BC's last win a five-setter to close out the 2015 season. The two teams first met in 1991 and played every season from 1996-2004 as members of the Big East. The first BC win in series history came in 2004, its final season before joining the ACC; a road sweep.
Last Time They Met...
BC and ND traded sets through the first four at Power Gym on Nov. 3, 2019. The Eagles led two sets to one after dominating the third, 25-13, with a .464 hitting percentage. The Irish pulled out the win with a 25-21 fourth and decisive 15-5 fifth. Jewel Strawberry posted an 18-kill, 15-dig double-double for Boston College, while Cat Balido added 14 kills and Amaka Chukwujekwu tallied 11. Notre Dame Charley Niego led all players with 22 kills.
