Eagles Surge Late Against No. 5 Notre Dame

Late runs in the second and third set come up short vs. the Irish.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College volleyball team was swept by No. 5 Notre Dame, 3-0, at Power Gym on Friday night. Both teams wore masks throughout the match.
The Fighting Irish (5-1) won by scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-23. In the second set, the Eagles (0-7) went behind by five at 17-12 and twice climbed within a point, but trading runs with ND produced a win in the game for the visitors.
BC trailed the third 20-15 before a 7-2 run tied the set at 22. Senior middle blocker Amaka Chukwujekwu (Laurel, Md.) provide a solo block and a kill on back-to-back plays to tie the set before the Irish finished off the match.
Notre Dame's Caroline Meuth led all players with 15 kills. Senior outside hitter Clare Naughton (Atlanta, Ga.) recorded a 10-kill, 12-dig double-double to lead the BC attack. Sophomore outside hitter Silvia Ianeselli (Trento, Italy) contributed seven kills and six digs.
Setter Zoe Nunez guided the Irish offense with 41 assists. Libero Hattie Monson picked up a match-high 24 digs. Freshman libero Anna Murphy (Zionsville, Ind.) notches 12 digs for BC.
Boston College wraps up its fall season in a rematch with Notre Dame at 8 p.m. The match will be broadcast on ACCNX.
