BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Boston College dropped a 40-14 decision to No. 23 Virginia Tech at Lane Stadium on Saturday night.
ÂPhil Jurkovec finished the night going 28-for-51 for 345 yards, two touchdown passes, and two interceptions. Jaelen Gill led BC with 104 receiving yards and a touchdown on six receptions. Zay Flowers hauled in seven passes for 57 yards, while Hunter Long grabbed four passes for 53 yards and a TD. David Bailey gained 41 yards on 10 carries.

ÂBoston College responded with a touchdown on its next drive, engineering a score on a 13-play, 77-yard drive. Jurkovec found Jehlani Galloway on a 30-yard strike to get close to midfield. From there, the redshirt sophomore signal caller linked up three times with Jaelin Gill on two passing plays of 12 yards - including one that found the sophomore wideout in the end zone for his first TD of the season. BC led 7-3 with 10:52 left in the second quarter.
ÂThe Hokies began their next drive at midfield and used four plays and just under two minutes to regain the lead, scoring on a seven-yard run for the TD. VT led 10-7 with less than nine minutes to play in the half.
ÂThe Eagles committed their third mishap of the first half, as a Jurkovec pass was picked off at the Hokies' 26 yard line. Virginia Tech would capitalize on the turnover, driving 74 yards over the next 3:50 to make it 17-7 with 2:41 remaining in the half.
ÂBC came out of the halftime break strong, forcing a three-and-out before orchestrating a six-play, 80-yard drive, capped by a 20-yard touchdown reception by Hunter Long, cutting the deficit to 17-14 with 7:11 left in the third. The Hokies would extend the lead back to 10, scoring on their next drive, making it 24-14.
ÂAnother BC turnover gave the Hokies the ball inside the Eagles' 20. Virginia Tech tacked on another field goal, leading 27-14 with 2:10 left in the third. A quick strike by VT on the first drive of the 4th quarter pushed the lead to 33-14 before a late TD made it 40-14.
ÂMax Richardson led BC with 15 tackles - five solo. Isaiah McDuffie added 11 tackles (two solo). Brandon Sebastian made four tackles - two for a loss - while Jason Maitre logged a sack.
ÂAs a team, BC gained a total of 435 yards and 24 first downs. The Eagles were 9-of-15 on 3rd down and 2-of-3 on 4th down on the night.
