Complete Team Effort Pushes BC Past #18/18 Virginia

Jay Heath led all scorers with 17; Jared Hamilton added 16 - including the go-ahead 3-pointer
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Boston College outscored #18/18 Virginia 15-3 over the final 5:25 of the game - capped by a go-ahead 3-pointer from Jared Hamilton with 38 seconds remaining - en route to 60-53 decision over the defending national champions.
The win improves BC's record to 9-6 overall and 3-1 in ACC play.
Trailing 2-0 early on, BC used a 12-2 run over the next six and a half minutes to take a 12-4 lead. The Eagles would extend its lead to 10 - after a Jay Heath 3-pointer made it 18-8 with 10:46 to go in the half.
Virginia would score the next five points to start a 12-3 push, cutting the Eagles' lead to one - 21-20 - with 5:16 to play in the period. The Eagles held onto a 30-26 lead at the break.
CJ Felder scored the first five points of the second half for BC, completing the traditional 3-point play and pushing the lead to seven - 35-28 with 16:11 to go. It began an 8-2 push, capped by a Jairus Hamilton jumper at the 13:52 mark, giving the Eagles their largest lead of the night - 12 points - at 42-30.
The Cavaliers entered the night as the top-ranked defensive team in the nation per KenPom.com. They scored 10 unanswered points as it ran off a 20-3 run over the next seven-plus minutes. The Cavs capped off its run with two free throws, taking a 50-45 lead with 5:25 to go before the game winning rally for the Eagles.
BC is now 8-15 all-time against defending National Champions.

- Heath added two assists (one turnover) and two steals.
- Jared Hamilton scored 12 of his 16 points - including the go-ahead 3-pointer in front of the BC bench - in 31 minutes of play. Hamilton was 5-for-8 (1-2 3FG) from the floor and 5-of-8 from the charity stripe. He added two rebounds, an assist, and a steal on the night.
- Steffon Mitchell - a game-time decision due to flu-like symptoms - provided another complete stat line: 10 points, seven rebounds, two steals, three blocked shots, and an assist in 30 minutes.
- Jairus Hamilton nearly tallied a double-double, registering 10 points (5-8 FG), seven rebounds, and two steals.
- CJ Felder added five points and three boards, while Julian Rishwain had two points, four boards, two assists, and a steal.
- For the game, BC shot just under 45% (21-47) from the floor, including 4-of-17 from the perimeter. Â
- The Eagles connected on 14-of-24 free throws on the night, but made 4-of-4 over the final 38 seconds of regulation.
- Boston College snapped a six-game losing streak against Virginia, dating back to Feb. 5, 2014.
- 60 - The 60 points by the Eagles tonight marked their highest point total against Virginia since Jan. 19, 2011 (67).
