Eagles Cruise Past Brown 6-1, Improve to 2-0
January 20, 2020 | Women's Tennis
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Boston College improved to 2-0 on Monday afternoon, sweeping singles play for a 6-1 road victory over Brown at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
After losing the doubles point, the Eagles won all six singles matches against the Bears, including three in straight sets. Yufei Long and Laura Lopez both won 6-2, 6-2 at first and fifth singles, while Elene Tsokilauri picked up a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 6.
"Yufei set the tone today, I thought we all fed off her energy," said head coach Nigel Bentley. "We were very strong in the third sets and our off court conditioning was a big plus for us. It's always hard to win on the road and I'm proud of the way our team responded after dropping the doubles point."
Kylie Wilcox, Natasha Irani and Dasha Possokhova all won third sets to clinch their matches. Wilcox and Long were BC's lone winners in doubles by a 6-4 final in the No. 1 slot.
Later this week, BC plays four matches beginning with UMass at the new Connell Recreation Center at 4 p.m. on Thursday (Jan. 23). The Eagles travel to Harvard on Friday (Jan. 24) before hosting Fordham and Rhode Island in a doubleheader on Sunday (Jan. 26) beginning at 10 a.m.
