No. 4 Eagles Earn Weekend Split with 6-3 Road Win at No. 10 UMass

AMHERST, Mass. – Five players posted multi-point games as No. 4 Boston College scored six goals on the top-ranked defense in Hockey East for a 6-3 victory over No. 10 UMass on Saturday night at the Mullins Center.
The Eagles earned a split of the top-10 weekend series, improving to 13-5-0 overall and 7-3-0 in the league, while the Minutemen fell to 14-7-1 (7-4-1 HEA).
Ben Finkelstein registered his second three-point performance in the last three games, while Matt Boldy and Logan Hutsko each collected multi-point games with a goal and an assist. Julius Mattila (0-3-3) and Alex Newhook (0-2-2) combined for five primary assists.
Freshmen Mike Hardman and Marshall Warren both lit the lamp as Warren became just the second rookie defenseman in Hockey East to reach four goals. Warren's goal in the second period chased UMass netminder Filip Lindberg from the game after his 41-save performance on Friday.
David Cotton netted his 10th goal of the season and fifth on the power play in the opening period. Spencer Knight made 28 saves for his 12th win of the season, including 18 crucial stops in the first.
Boston College won the special teams battle convincingly by going 3-for-5 on the power play and a perfect 4-for-4 while a man down.

1st 13:13, BC Goal (1-1) • Early in BC's first power play chance, Mattila slid a pass to the right doorstep for Cotton, who quickly turned and swept a forehand through Lindberg's five-hole.
1st 16:24, BC Goal (2-1) • On a transition rush, Aapeli Räsänen dropped a pass to Newhook on the right wing. The rookie skated toward the faceoff dot and shoveled a backhand to Hardman near the left post for a first-time finish.
2nd 2:03, BC Goal (3-1) • Boldy gained the offensive line on an odd-man rush and delayed before turning a pass into the right circle for Warren, who settled the puck and fired a shot glove side.
2nd 6:13, BC Goal (4-1) • From below the goal line, Hutsko backhanded a pass to Mattila near the right post and the senior set up Finkelstein for a heavy one-timer off the left post to beat Matt Murray blocker side.
2nd 9:52, UMass Goal (4-2) • Chaffee tipped a loose puck on the edge of the crease to the left post for Marc Del Gaizo to bang into the back of the net.
2nd 15:16, BC Goal (5-2) • Seconds after a BC power play expired, Newhook and Zach Walker exchanged a give-and-go in the high slot. Newhook linked up with Boldy in the right circle and the freshman uncorked a wrist shot short side high.
3rd 0:50, UMass Goal (5-3) • John Leonard gained the Boston College line as an Eagle defenseman lost an edge and the junior snapped a shot over Knight's shoulder glove side.
3rd 11:46, BC Goal (6-3) • Mattila's cross-ice pass on the power play deflected off a skate to Hutsko in the left wing circle, and the junior's low wrister found the bottom left corner.
