Venezia, Smith Score For Eagles In Win Over UNH

Francesca Venezia's 61st minute goal proved to be the game-winner in the 2-0 win.
NEWTON, Mass. – Francesca Venezia scored her first career goal in the 61st minute and Sam Smith added an insurance goal in the 77th as the Boston College women's soccer team topped New Hampshire, 2-0, on Sunday at the Newton Campus Fields. The win moved the Eagles to 6-0-0 on the year.
After a scoreless first half, Venezia put home the eventual game-winning goal 15 minutes into the second half before Smith notched her fifth score of the season to secure BC's sixth consecutive win to start the season. Maddie Murphy and Allie Augur combined for the shutout in goal. Augur played the first half, making two saves, while Murphy closed out the final 45 minutes to earn her second win of the season.
Boston College will close out the three-game home stand on Thursday, Sept. 12 with a 5:30 p.m. match against Providence.

- 61' | After Jillian Jennings struck an indirect free kick off of the right post, Samantha Agresti tried to poke the rebound home. Agresti's rebound popped out to an open space five yards off the post and Venezia got to the ball first, turned on it and hit a right-footed shot to the far post.
- 77' | After the ball was served across the field to the right flank, Karras carried it down the wing and then slotted it inside the box for Smith. Smith took a touch and placed the ball past the goalkeeper as the UNH defender converged.
- Boston College is now 12-7-3 in the all-time series with New Hampshire … this was the first meeting between the two teams since Sept. 19, 2000 … the Eagles are now on a 5-0-2 run in the series.
- The Eagles' 6-0-0 start is the fifth one for the program since 1981 … this is the second time since 2009 that BC has started a season with six consecutive wins (2018).
- Francesca Venezia's goal marked the first score of her career … it stood up to be the game-winning goal … the senior earned her first career assist on Aug. 25 against UMass Lowell.
- Samantha Agresti and Mia Karras each tallied their second assist of the season.
- BC now has eight different goal scorers on the season and three players with at least two goals ... 12 different players have earned at least one point for the Eagles.
- Kayla Jennings made her first appearance of the season … the captain played 10 minutes in her return to the pitch from injury.
- Boston College held the 5-2 edge in shots on goal and out-earned the Wildcats 11-2 in corner kicks.
