Eagles, Friars Battle to 1-1 Overtime Tie

NEWTON, Mass. – The Boston College women's soccer team battled Providence College into overtime on Thursday night, and the two non-conference teams ultimately played to a 1-1 tie at the Newton Campus Fields.
After a scoreless first half that saw freshman Goalkeeper Allie Augur make three saves, Gianna Mitchell headed home her third goal of the season 10 minutes into the second half. The Eagles kept the pressure on but the Friars were able to equalize. Hannah McNulty headed home a ball in the 88th minute.
Providence (3-2-0) and BC (6-0-1) traded looks in both overtime periods – which each goalkeeper making two saves in the extra 20 minutes of play – but the former BIG EAST rivals would play to the 1-1 tie.
Augur and Providence's Shelby Hogan each finished with five saves.
Boston College will embark on a two-game road trip, with the first stop coming at Mississippi State on Sunday, Sept. 15 before opening up ACC play at Florida State on Thursday, Sept. 19.

- 56' | Sam Smith hit a wide-open Riley Lochhead on the left wing and Lochhead took a few touches before serving a ball into the middle of the box. Mitchell headed it back into the middle of the goal.
- 88' | Off of a free kick from the right wing, Angie Suaza's ball went to the far post where Hannah McNulty headed it between Augur and the right post. Augur was able to get a hand on it but the ball was able to get fully over the goal line.
- Boston College is now 25-3-4 in the all-time series with the Friars
- The squads tied at 6-6 in shots on goal and 4-4 in corner kicks.
- Riley Lochhead's assist on Gianna Mitchell's goal gives her four on the year, a new career-high … Sam Smith earned her first career-assist.
