Sigurdarson's Late Goal Leads Eagles Past URI, 2-1

Eagles improve to 3-0 with win over Rhode Island
NEWTON, Mass. - The Boston College men's soccer team improved to 3-0 with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Rhode Island (0-2-1) at the Newton Soccer Field on Friday night.
Freshmen Amos Shapiro-Thompson and Stefan Sigurdarson scored to lead the Eagles, while freshman Giacomo Piccardo (3-0) earned the win in goal.
The Eagles out shot Rhode Island, 23-10, in the match. Sigurdarson led BC with six shots, while Shapiro-Thompson had five.
Boston College (3-0-0) will next play at Holy Cross on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

GOALS
- BC | 13' - Amos Shapiro-Thompson (unassisted) – The freshman forward stole the ball at midfield and rushed up the middle of the field before he unleashed a right-footed shot into the back of the net for a 1-0 BC lead.
-URI | 15' - Simon Trcka (Edvin Akselsen) – Trcka one-timed a rebound off a set piece into the far post.
-BC | 86' - Freshman Stefan Sigurdarson (unassisted) - Sigurdarson scored with four minutes left to give BC a 2-1 lead. He won the ball in the midfield and took three dribbles before placing a left-footed shot into the top corner in the 86th minute of the match. It was his first goal of the season.
GAME NOTES
- This was the 38th meeting between BC and Rhode Island. The win gives BC 16 victories in the series.
- At the half, Boston College had 11 shots, while URI managed five. Amos Shapiro-Thompson had four shots in the first half. Sigurdarson led BC with a total of six shots. In the final 10 minutes of the match, BC had nine shots and finished the game with a season-high 23 shots.
- Boston College tallied seven corner kicks, while Rhode Island had two.
