Mitchell's Second Half Goal Lifts Eagles Over Huskies
September 05, 2019 | Women's Soccer
Gianna Mitchell headed home the game-winner early in the second half of the 1-0 win over Northeastern.
NEWTON, Mass. – Behind a second half goal off of the head of Gianna Mitchell, the Boston College women's soccer team topped Northeastern, 1-0, on Thursday night at the Newton Campus Fields.
Neither team was able to put a shot on goal in the early goings of the match, with the first not coming until Gaby Carreiro's look in the 23rd minute. Just three minutes into the second half, Mitchell put home her second goal of the season off of a ball from Riley Lochhead.
Northeastern kept pushing for an equalizer but the BC defense was equal to the task. Goalkeeper Allie Augur also matched the aggressive play by cutting of crosses and long looks to grab her second shutout of the season in the 1-0 win.
Boston College will remain home to host New Hampshire at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8.
