September 30, 2019 | Football
Junior tailback named ACC Running Back of the Week for third week in a row.
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Boston College junior running back AJ Dillon earned his third straight ACC Running Back of the Week honor as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon. It marked the sixth such honor in Dillon's career as he became the first player to claim to award three weeks in a row since the league separated the Offensive Back of the Week Award to quarterback and running back specific winners in 2018.
Â
Dillon's six weekly ACC awards are the most by a running back in the league since Steve Addazio took over BC for the 2013 season. He is two awards ahead of Florida State's Cam Akers (2017-present) and Dalvin Cook (2014-16) and three awards ahead of Clemson's Travis Etienne (2017-present), Pitt's James Conner (2013-16) and fellow Eagle Andre Williams (2010-13).
Â
Dillon rushed for 159 yards on 23 carries against No. 24 Wake Forest on Saturday. It was his third consecutive 150-yard game and 10th of his career. Dillon's 15th career game with 100 rushing yards or more is the fifth most in BC history and currently ranks second most among active running backs in the country.
Â
For the season, Dillon has rushed for 627 yards, which ranks third in the nation and first in the ACC. His six rushing touchdowns are 11th in the country and second in the league. Dillon is up to sixth on the all-time rushing list at BC with 3,324; 180 yards back of Troy Stradford (1982-86). His career rushing total also ranks 30th all-time in the ACC.
Â
Boston College is on the road this weekend against Louisville in a match-up of the league's top-two rushing offenses. Saturday's kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. on the ACC RSNs, including NESN in Boston and YES in New York City.
