September 29, 2019 | Field Hockey
NEWTON, Mass. – Despite four goals for the Eagles, the BC field hockey team dropped a game against Saint Joe's, 5-4, at the Newton Field Hockey Complex on Sunday, Sept. 29.
Margo Carlin scored two goals for BC, extending her team-lead to 10 on the year, while Charlotte Von Huelsen and Brigid Wood added goals of their own.
Von Huelsen opened the scoring on the day, hitting a rebound home on a reverse shot 9:16 into the first period. Saint Joe's would then score two late goals in the first period to head into the first break up 2-1.
Wood then scored the lone goal in the second period to bring BC level, intercepting a pass in the center of the field and taking it all the way and scoring.
Carlin then made a nice defensive play on her own, taking the ball away from the Saint Joe's defender in our offensive circle and hitting a low-driven shot into the cage.
The Hawks would then tie it up off a penalty corner, before Carlin scored her second of the day. Jaime Natale made an incredible run into the circle before centering the ball to Carlin who put it home.
Saint Joe's would then score late in the third period with 48 seconds left to tie it all at four. Just under 15 minutes later, Saint Joe's scored off a corner of their own to take a 5-4 lead.
BC would have one last chance, as Natale would force a penalty corner with just under eight seconds to go in the game. On the corner, Fusine Govaert would get a clean shot, but it was saved by the goalie and Saint Joe's would clear the circle with no time remaining.
BC led the game with 20 total shots and 12 on goal compared to 16 and 10 for SJU.
