
No. 8 Eagles Skate To Season-Opening Win At Merrimack

Savannah Norcross scored the game-winning goal while Maddy McArthur earned the 25-save shutout.
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The No. 8/8 Boston College women's hockey team skated to a season-opening 2-0 win over Merrimack on Friday night at Lawler Rink. Maddy McArthur made 25 saves for the shutout while Savannah Norcross scored the game-winning goal. Freshman Caroline DiFiore put home the empty-net goal late in the third period.
Merrimack held the 12-11 edge in shots on goal after the scoreless first period but Norcross broke the deadlock late in the middle frame with her fourth career goal. DiFiore would earn her first career goal with 23 seconds left on the clock for the final score of 2-0.
Lea-Kristine Demers finished with 32 saves for Merrimack to McArthur's 25.
The Eagles went 1-for-5 on the power play and kept the Warriors to 0-for-6. BC had the 34-25 lead in shots on goal.

SCORING
- 2nd, 16:12 | Cayla Barnes worked towards the right circle before turning and floating a pass to Lindsay Agnew at the high slot. Agnew faked a wrist shot and slipped the puck to the hashmarks where Norcross collected it and lofted a backhand past the glove of Demers.
- 3rd, 19:37 | Merrimack tried to pass the puck back into the neutral zone but DiFiore was able to cause a turnover, skate in and slide a shot through the lone defender's legs for the empty-net goal.
- BC is now 14-1-0 all-time against Merrimack with a mark of 6-1-0 at Lawler Rink.
- The Eagles have now shutout the Warriors six times in 15 meetings.
- BC is now 14-11-1 all-time in season-opening games and 8-4-1 under head coach Katie Crowley.
- This was the first time that BC and Merrimack met in the first game of the season and the first time since the 2013-14 season that BC opened up with a conference game ... the Eagles topped Maine, 5-1, on Oct. 6, 2013.
- Maddy McArthur earned her sixth career shutout with her 25 saves … it was her first shutout of Merrimack.
- This marked the first time that BC has earned a shutout in the season-opener since a 4-0 win over Colgate on Oct. 8, 2010.
- Savannah Norcross' goal marked her first career game-winning goal.
- Caroline DiFiore's score was the first of her career.
