Senior Joe Kellett tallies game-winning goal as BC improves to 5-2.
NEWTON, Mass. - The Boston College men's soccer team defeated in-state rival Massachusetts, 1-0, in a home match at the Newton Soccer Field on Tuesday night.

The win pushed BC's record to 5-2-0 overall (0-2-0 ACC), while UMass dropped to 4-4.

Senior Joe Kellett scored on a penalty kick in the 48th minute to secure the victory.

The penalty kick was set up when freshman Amos Shapiro-Thompson sent junior Beta Luna into the box for a one-timer from six yards out. The UMass goalkeeper Marvyn Dorchin saved the shot, but on the rebound he tripped BC sophomore Stefan Sigurdarson in the box and BC was awarded a penalty kick.

Boston College finished the game with 17 shots, six on goal, while UMass had 13 shots, just three on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Christian Garner (1-0) earned his first win in his first start this season. He had three saves in the Eagles third shutout of the season.

- Freshman Michael Suski led the Eagles attack with six shots. He had one shot hit the crossbar and another hit the post. Freshman Amos Shapiro-Thompson had four shots, while Stefan Sigurdarson had four shots. He also hit a post in the first half.
- Sophomore Tyshawn Rose earned his second start of the season, while freshman Alejandro Zimmermann started his third consecutive game.
- Joe Kellett's game-winner was his first goal for BC since arriving in 2018. Kellett, who played his first two seasons at Lowell, scored a game-winner while a freshman in 2016.
